The internet youtube phenomenon ASMR
I was first introduced to ASMR phenomenon by the Netflix original documentary series Follow Me where they documented the ASMR boom in Youtube. According to Huffington Post, ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) is a calming pleasurable feeling followed by a tingling sensation stimulated by whispering sound, personal attention, crisp sound, slow movement, etc. It is suppose to cause you to relax and get to sleep easier. It does not trigger sexual sensation in most people.
Now a days, v-logging about ASMR in Youtube is not very strange anymore. One of the most famous ASMR v-logger, ASMR Darling and Gentle Whispering ASMR has around 2 and 1.5 Million followers. The number of followers and views of their videos seem to have proven that there are a lot of people who feel relax from watching ASMR videos. See ASMR Darling explaining what ASMR is below.
I found the Best of Celebrities ASMR mix video by W Magazine today, so I tried to listen to it. I usually don't feel anything when I watch ASMR videos in Youtube, but I think W Magazine's ASMR video is funny and relaxing. The video was created by W Magazine featuring A-list celebrities such as Margot Robbie, Gal Gadot, Lucy Hale, Salma Hayek, Kate Hudson, Emily Rajatkowski, and so on. In the video, these actresses talk about the movies that they were in, a movie, or their hobbies, and I found it to be very entertaining.
"The actress and actors are pretending to be a ASMR v-logger, which is funny. It kept me watching. I actually feel entertained and relax, partly from of the relaxing whipper but mostly from of the occasional laugh it got from the way they act."
Perhaps we are living in a world severely polluted by noise that we have to calm ourselves by listening to people whispering. Everyday, we are listening to the loud noise of our car's machine, the sound of the bathroom's or the kitchen's fan, or a nearby building construction sound. Well, have fun watching and maybe you will find out something new about yourself. Ciao!
