Updated: Dec 10, 2019

Gift Idea for Your Special Ones by CiderElla

Cider lovers, I am back from long hibernation this year. I got caught up on my real day work, sorry about that! ^o^ But I am back now, with another DIY post for you.

Me and my boyfriend are celebrating our anniversary this year and it took sometime for me to brainstorm on what to give him (o_o). He really needs a wall clock and I wanted to give him something that will remind us of our memories. When I searched in Amazon apparently there are a lot of sellers who sells clock mechanism kit for clock DIY. An idea suddenly popped on my brain. Why not a DIY Clock Shadow Box? (yippieee!!!). I rushed my self to buy all the material needed to start this exciting project.

What I like about this DIY Clock Shadow Box?

I am supper glad that I decided to make this because it is very pretty and functional. The vintage style of the shadow box is very stylish. I could literary threw anything inside the box and it would still look good. The depth of the box lets you add different variety of ornaments in it, like clock or small soft toys. The glass door on the display shadow box makes it really easy for me to redecorate and re-adjust the clock. Most importantly, it has a clock in it.

What do you need?

I purchased most of the items I used either from Amazon or Michaels. Amazon is very convenient, and has more variety of products. It is so easy to return the product especially as an Amazon Prime account holder. I used Amazon to buy the shadow box and clock mechanism, because Amazon carries various types of the same product. I like online shopping better, especially when I already know the specs of product that I am looking for.

You can also find some variety of art supplies at Michaels, Etsy, or Joan. I bought the ornaments, the owl toy and dried cotton flower, at Michaels because they have a lot of discount coupon that I can use to get a discount for my purchase. TIPS: If you are patient, wait until you get the 50% - 60% off discount coupon. Don't forget to register online for their coupons, so you get their coupons emailed to your mailbox.

So,which ever places you decide to purchase these materials, go and buy all of this:

  1. Shadow Box Display Case with Linen Back (i used 8'x10' size)

  2. X-Small Clock Mechanism Kit with High Shaft (make sure the clock handles fits into your shadow box)

  3. Photos, dried flowers, toys, or other ornaments

  4. Pushpins

  5. Glue gun

  6. Glue dot

  7. Marker

How to assemble it?

  1. Mark the point, center of the clock, where you are going to drill a hole for the clock shaft entry

  2. Use a driller to make a hole in the marked dot, make sure it is big enough for your clock shaft

  3. Insert the clock mechanism base and glue with a glue gun, so it doesn't shift

  4. Assemble the clock handles and tightened, cut the handles if they are too long

  5. Add photos and tightened with pushpins

  6. Add toys and dry flowers, glue them with glue dot, so they don't fall off when you hang or shake the clock

  7. You are done :)))

Irene's Calligraphy

You can add any quotes to make your DIY clock shadow box personal and meaningful. The "365 days, 8760 hours" beautiful calligraphy card ornament inside my box was given by my friend, Irene. I stick it to the linen board with pushpins. Look at the pretty detail in the next picture.

Irene is a very talented. She can be a great help for your wedding day. Check out www.irenespiration.com to see her portfolios!

Good luck and have fun trying!

XOXO
