Classic American Heirloom - Good Food 2018 Award Winner
The Oregon originated cideries, Lassen, is a cider maker that is dedicated to produce quality cider using traditional method. I found this at Health Spirit in the Cortland Avenue in San Francisco. Each different store seems to have different varieties of cider sold and the Cortland Avenue ones is selling mostly bottled cider with wine characteristic. I picked a couple of ciders including the Newton Pippin Lassen. It was made using the oldest cultivar apple specimens in the US, the Classic American Heirloom the Newtown Pippin apple.
"The light gold liquid is delicious. It is very dry with a slight tartness of apple. It has a quite strong woody flavor in it, maybe because it was aged in a red wine barrel. It has a white wine characteristic in it. Crisp and delicious. I will rate it at 3.8 out of 5.0."
